Department of family medicine (DMF)
Research
The DMF is a hub for research into family medicine, as well as a scientific partner for cantonal and national political and health authorities. Research activities are thus firmly rooted in day-to-day medical practice, in order to develop knowledge specific to family medicine and its role in the healthcare system. The DMF has six distinct research groups:
- · Well-being of primary care professionals
- · Appropriate use of antibiotics
- · New models of primary care
- · Health and environment in family medicine
- · Mental health in family medicine
- · Surveillance in family medicine
Clinical practice
The DMF maintains a close link with family medicine on the ground by assuming medical responsibility for the Permanence du Flon. Here, doctors training to practise general internal medicine receive patients under office conditions, under the supervision of experienced, established practitioners.
Teaching
The DMF provides a coherent, continuous and academically grounded education in family medicine at the University of Lausanne's Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM). The teaching offered is designed to equip students and doctors in training with the clinical skills required for high-quality family medicine practice. In collaboration with the Cursus Romand de Médecins de Famille (CRMF) and a network of practice-based physicians, the DMF's pre- and post-graduate teaching contributes to the enhancement of the career of family doctor by focusing on the attractiveness of ambulatory and practice-based medicine.
